A favorite 'food culture' you prefer??

Like..do you LOVE Italian, Greek, Mexican, Indian?

Sometimes..I think I was born in the wrong country! Don't get me wrong, I love most American food..but I do love the food from other countries.

Italian..I love any of the parmesean/alfredo foods..good salad..and Gnocchi....along with many pastas. I'm not fond of red sauce ..ONLY because it causes my heartburn to flare up..if it weren't for that, I'd love the red sauces too.

Today..was chicken day!

Part of the 'rubber chicken' week!

It's a frugal thing, and a yummy thing.

On Sunday, I baked a whole chicken. That chicken has now bounced three x's for me.

1. Dinner on Sunday night

2. Lunch for the hubbby the following day

3. The best Chicken and Dumplins tonight!

YUM!! (and actually, since I made a huge pot..it'll be here for lunch tomorrow!..that's 4x's round for one chicken!)

Wasnt' sure whether to put this in the frugal section or the what's ...

For many years I made a homemade version of 'hamburger helper' ..specifically when my kids lived at home. It went a long way and fed a lot! Econimical too!

HUBBY loves it..and I had not made it in a long long time, to tonight it was 'comfort food day'..and I made the homemade hamburger helper today..cept I used ground venison..which you can't tell the difference in that and hamburger..cept ..there's little to no fat.

Added the macaroni noodles..some mushrooms..little soy sauce..salt, ...

Tomorrow is day 10 and time to make my Amish loaves. I have been doing these for so many years, I can't really remember! I had the starter given to me from a friend and I always have one or two in the freezer to keep it going. The last time I made the 2 loaves and started another batch right away, it is so delicious and the hunters are enjoying it right now. If you don't have this one...has cinnamon and brown sugar 1/2 way and on top ( I could send the recipe to see if you have it? ) I would ...

We absolutely love homemade soup here. I always make a double batch of hamburger soup for the men to take hunting, and I just posted a recipe for short rib soup on PS site.

Does anyone have a great soup recipe that they could share? I have borscht, clam chowder, homemade tomato, hamburger and shortrib that are tried, true and delicious. Would love to share them.

Hmmm, feels like homemade bread day. But too much to do...maybe next week?

Pot Roast night

I tell ya, I had a small/medium sized rump roast that I decided to make for dinner. I wanted to use the crock pot (so as not to heat up the oven all day)..so I sat that little roast on the counter, and cut slits or pockets in the top..these were deep pockets, that went at least 1/2 way through or better (But I didn't cut it deep on the 'side' part of the pocket) ..I wanted to 'stuff' this little roast, so I literally cut ..pockets in it.

Anyway..I cut about 5 pockets along the top..1/2 way ...

LAST night was a different story...homemade fried chicken, corn that I had put up, and for a side dish, I had some fabulous beef gravy that I had made over the weekend...so I thinned it down, creating a semi thick broth, whipped up some dumplins (added lots of pepper...), brought the broth to a rolling boil and dropped the dumplin's in, one small spoonfull at a time..OHMYGAWD..they were so good! Pepper dumplins with beef gravy..OH yeah!

Yep, this was a cheat night. This is where I enjoy the 21st century!

I was hip deep in herbs today, taking counts, measuring, creating potpourri and what not. Not to mention doing all those regular things, sweeping and mopping the floor, making beds, doing laundry and hanging it out to dry, bringing it in, folding it, putting it away, starting up the shoppe....whew! I let the time get away from me and didn't take anything out for dinner...so when the hubby called to say "I'm on my way ...
